Portfolio Recovery Associates—Beware
Would you believe that Portfolio Recovery Associates is a publicly traded company? (PRAA-Nasdaq). This is the same company buys up debt that is out of statute and who illegally sues consumer. Guess what? They make lots of money because a lot of people out there do not know their rights or anything about consumer laws. Check out what Budd Hibbs writes about them They are constantly being sued by sharp consumer lawyers but on the other side of the coin they are filing tens of thousands of actions against consumers each year all over the US. The said part is that they win because the defendants are either to scared to show up or don’t have a clue about what is happening.
This is all deadly serious. I am talking about hundreds of millions of dollars that go into the coffers of PRA every year. Some day in the future some state attorney general more than one attorney general will shut them down permanently. For now though they are having a field day. Why do I bring all of this up. I try to teach people that they may not be a victim of these white collar thugs but a business associate, friend or relative might be. Having problems with par I am sure this not my debt they said they bought it. The card number they gave me does not match my card and my card was a $250.00 secured card they are saying I owe $1500 and some. The said its noted dispute and want me to send them anything I have on this account and to dispute it in writing or call will continue. I have been battling with this issue for years am I’m tiredbut I am standing on principles. I pay all my bills but I can’t afford to pay someone else’s or bogus debt.I need help please. I am not really sure this is even my debt and they won’t mail me any specifics. This debt is from 1997 or 98 they said.
